I kept away from Newsvine for about 60 days after the conversion to "beta". I wanted to step back, get my thoughts together about the world and see if anything would change on Newsvine. Nothing has really changed, the new layout looks great on a tablet but the vibes are just as negative and maybe even more ugly than before.
The thrill is gone... the Vine seems to have become a place of group think, verbal confrontation and non-stop politics about the same issues over and over and over again. What happened to learn something here?
Maybe NBC should change the site name to "rehash the same shit here everyday"!
What I dislike the most about Newsvine is that I never see anyone admit that because of the information shared by someone else some positive change has been made on a personal level; no reconsideration, no change in position, no change in understanding... no change! No Value! Nothing...
In my absence, I got some reading in (rather than wasting time here) and read a book that confirmed my worst fears about America by Sheldon Wolin, Democracy Incorporated: Managed Democracy and the Specter of Inverted Totalitarianism, 2008.
I learned about his concept of Inverted Totalitarianism, depressing and negative, but quite obviously the true course of the USA and the rest of the world. I have seriously considered finding some where else that my wife and I could go in the world, but that now seems mostly futile.... and then the ass holes win!
I don't know if I will close my account, I wouldn't want any of the jerks that troll this place to take Rainbow Warrior as a screen name... I have become very active locally, and have always been an advocate of economic re-localization. I was elected to the Board of Directors for the Mile Business Alliance here in Denver in December, and love working with local small businesses and helping to create an alternative economy and have made many new friends in the process. I very much love and respect many here and equally dislike others as well, I guess I'll just visit now and then and see what happens.
I would encourage my friends to spend more time in the real world connecting with those who live near to you, than wasting too much time here.
Peace and prosperity for all, Aho - Mitakuye Oyasin
